LAWRENCE COUNTY - SEPTEMBER 27, 2022 - Former Sheriff Jerry Ross Sr. passed away on Monday. Former Sheriff Jerry Ross served two terms first term from 1987 - 1990.
However, Ross made a comeback in the 1994 election winning for another term from 1995-1998. Ross was the 40th and 42nd Sheriff to serve Lawrence County.
Ross served more than 26 years at the Lawrence County Sheriff's Department. Ross started out in the old jail located on J Street before the new jail located at 15th and I Streets was constructed in 1990.
Ross seen many changes in the department over the years as well as law enforcement in general.
Ross was in failing health for several years.
Private funeral services was held with the Fergerson & Lee of the Thorne George Family Funeral Home in Bedford in charge of arrangements.
