Two Injured in Brown Station Road Traffic Accident Sunday Morning

BEDFORD - NOVEMBER 2, 2022 - Two men were injured in a traffic accident Sunday morning on Brown Station Road Sunday morning. The accident happened in the 2700 block of Brown Station Road.

The 911 call reporting the accident came in at 12:34 a.m. Sunday morning. According to fire officials the original call was reported on Erie Church Road.

Alex Casas, 19, Mountain Grove, MO was found responsive at the scene of the accident and laying in a ditch some 25 feet from a 2016 Ford Focus.

Casas's passenger Dane Thurau, 20, Perryville, MO was complaining of leg pain at the scene.

Thurau told police they were on their way to the Free Spirit Campground but could not remember anything about the accident. " We wanted to take the backroad to the campground," Next thing he membered was waking up in the roadway. according to the police report.

The engine of the vehicle was found 40 feet from the accident scene.

IU Lifeline air ambulance transported Casas to Methodist Hospital from the scene. There were no ground ambulances available in Lawrence County or surrounding counties. It took the first ground ambulance more than 45 minutes to reach the accident scene.

Emergency personnel from the Shawsiwick and Pleasant Run Fire Department prepared a nearby landing zone for both helicopters to land. However, one air ambulance was directed to IU Health hospital in Bedford.

Thurau, was transported to the scene to IU Bedford for treatment and later transported by air ambulance to Methodist Hospital.

The accident was investigated by the Lawrence County Sheriff's Department. Bedford Fire Department, Shawswick Volunteer Fire Department, Pleasant Run Volunteer Fire Department, IU Lifeline Ground Ambulance, two Lifeline air ambulances, and Mikels Towing.
