SPRINGVILLE - JANUARY 16, 2023 - The Springville Community Academy held a board meeting last Thursday. The details of the meeting are listed below.

The board was updated on repairs, and issues at their facilities:

  • HFI repaired a leak in the kitchen.

  • Trent Osmon looking into options for the septic system at the facility.

  • PA system is not working properly hopefully it will be up and running soon.

  • The scoreboard for the facility was installed over the weekend.

  • Fire inspection of the facility is expected soon, and Koorsen will be doing an inspection of its equipment and fire extinguishers shortly.

Other news and actions:

  • The Springville Hornets first home will be Tuesday night at 6:00 p.m. against Clear Creek

  • The PTO is working on getting a 501(c)(3) tax status

  1. PTO have finished the design for the T-Shirts - Anna Burris 5th grader was the winner of the contest for the design of the shirts. The profits from the sales will go towards the Blessing bags project.

  2. Items for the concession have been purchased for the first home game of the season.

  3. Purchases have been made for a deep freezer, popcorn machine, and graduation gowns for the preschoolers, kindergarteners,

  4. A Dominos fundraiser will start February 13, 2023. A "Slice for Price" cards will be sold for $15. The school will get half for each card sold. The cards are valid until December 2023.

  5. PTO will hold concessions for the Valentine Day Dance from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on February 10th.

  • The school was awarded a 2023 CSP Quality Counts Grant of up to $900,000 was received. The school will be able to start asking for reimbursements back to October 1, 2022 after being awarded the funds. The school is researching two other grants.

  • The 8th Grade Class will be traveling to the North Lawrence Career Center on January 23rd

  • February 7th Pop In Event will allow families to meet the students.

  • Kindergarten Roundup will be held in March.

  • SCA is in search of a additional Special Education Instructor - A Social Media Posting will be used to recruit applicants.

  • The SCA board have forgiven the first semester book fees. In a 5-2 vote the SCA board approved the motion to collect book fees in the second semester. Dr. Conner, Dr. Smith and Jayme Davis will be looking into the development of payment of book rental fees.

The next meeting will be held on Wednesday February 8th.
