Shoals Man Wanted After Injuring Deputy and Fleeing Thursday from Martin County Courthouse


MARTIN COUNTY - JANUARY 30, 2023 - The Martin County Sheriff’s Office is looking for a wanted man in connection to resisting and battery on a deputy charge that occurred at the Martin County Courthouse.


Zane Sanders, 23 years old is wanted on several charges after injuring a Martin County Deputy

On January 26, 2023, at approximately 3:50 PM, Martin County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Cherie Pressley made contact with Zane A. Sanders at the Martin County Courthouse outside of the Circuit Courtroom. Deputy Pressley advised Sanders that he was going to be arrested for an outstanding Martin County warrant.


As Deputy Pressley attempted to take Sanders into custody, Sanders shoved Deputy Pressley in attempt to evade her. Deputy Pressley attempted to regain control of Sanders. Sanders again resisted and evaded Deputy Pressley. During the evading and resisting, Deputy Pressley was injured.


Sanders fled outside and got into his vehicle. Deputy Pressley pursued Sanders to his vehicle. Deputy Pressley ordered Sanders to stop, but he recklessly drove away.

Sheriff Josh Greene was able to gain distance on Sander’s blue Ford Ranger on State Road 450. At times, Sanders was traveling in excess of 100 MPH. Sanders stopped at a residence in Trinity Springs.

Deputies with the Martin County Sheriff’s Office sat up a perimeter around the residence. Additional assistance was provided by the Indiana State Police, Loogootee Police Department, and Indiana Conservation Law Enforcement. A lengthy search ensued throughout the night and next morning. However, Sanders was never located.

Deputy Pressley was treated and released from Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center. Deputy Pressley was back to work on Friday.


Zane A. Sanders, 23, Shoals is wanted on the following charges, Battery Resulting in Bodily Injury on Law Enforcement Official- Level 5 Felony, Resisting Law Enforcement with a Vehicle with a Prior Conviction- Level 5 Felony, Reckless Driving- Class C Misdemeanor, and Violation of Probation- Martin Circuit Court Warrant
