Shawswick Elem school to get new playground equipment and new roof in capital improvement projects

BEDFORD - AUGUST 20, 2023 - The Shawswick Elementary School will get new playground equipment after the board approved the $469,058 project from receiving a bid from Play Pros, Kokomo, IN.


This was a competitive bid process according to school officials. This will be paid from Capital Improvement bonds.

The Shawswick PTO will contribute another $75,000 towards the project to make ad ADA compliance with ADA regulations, making sure all students receive the benefit of using the equipment.



The purchase includes playground pieces; including, climbing walls, bridges, ramps, slides, swings, and see - saw.


The school has not had any upgrades since the late 80s, and the installation of the equipment will begin in April, 2024.



Shawswick Elementary School will also see a new roof after the school board approved the project on Thursday.


B&L Roofing, Bloomington was awarded the contract for $341,292 for tearing off the new shingles, and replacing it with new, and other work-related repairs.


The total cost for both is estimated at $810,350.
