Several Fire Departments Respond to Fire on Rardien Hill Road

MITCHELL - (March 21, 2022) - Several fire departments are working a house fire on Rariden Hill Road northwest of Mitchell Monday afternoon.




The alarm came in at 2:18 p.m. reporting an out-of-control brush pile. The residence is located in the 2275 Rariden Hill Road.


The Marion Township requested tanker support from Huron Volunteer Fire Department at 2:22 p.m. before requesting additional help from Mitchell, and Shawswick Township Volunteer Fire Departments.




The roadway at Dixie Highway and Rariden Hill Road was closed while firefighters shuttle water to the fire scene. The Mitchell Volunteer Fire Department is assisting in establishing a water supply at the intersection of Dixie Highway and Stevens Lane.




The smoke from the fire could be seen from State Road 37 in Bedford as thick black smoke billowed from on top of Rariden Hill Road.




Marion Township Fire Chief Paul Gillespie stated that a press released will be issued to the media later this evening. Lawrence County Zephyr will update this story when more information becomes available.




At this time there were no reports of injuries.
