Scott Smith Announces Candidacy for Lawrence County Commissioner District 1

LAWRENCE COUNTY - (December 28, 2021) - Scott Smith has announced his intention to run for Lawrence County Commissioner District 1 in the May primary. Smith submitted his announcement to the Lawrence County Zephyr this afternoon.

Scott Smith is the current Lawrence County Council president he has established himself as a leader in fighting for our conservative values while maintaining an honest and balanced budget. He is proud of the work that has been accomplished in collaboration with other leaders, but more challenges lie ahead.


Smith is a husband, father, small business owner and proud lifetime Lawrence County resident. He was born and raised, raised and grew up on a family farm just outside of Bedford. This county has given him and his family so much in a safe, secure community, to build a home, and raise a family plus ongoing support while growing a successful business.


" I want to continue serving the members of the community that have provided me with so much opportunity by serving as your next county commissioner," said Smith. " We need strong, respectful leadership to reflect and represent the kind, hardworking people of our county fairly and accurately,"


Of the three Commissioners, District 1 is the district that is up for election in 2022.


Smith concluded, " We need leadership that strives to better our community by attracting quality employers, supporting our agriculture base, and ensuring we protect the qualities of life that keeps our region thriving. I promise to take on these challenges like I do everything in my life, I will dig in on day one with wholehearted passion. No one can succeed alone, we must all work together to move Lawrence County forward,"


Smith will face off with Rodney Fish who is the current Lawrence County Commissioner for District 1. Fish has advised Lawrence County Zephyr that he will seek the party's nomination again in May. We have not received an official release from Fish at this time.


Filing for office will begin in January with the two candidates who already announced they will seek Lawrence County Sheriff nomination for Republican Party. Greg Day and Gregg Taylor announced their intentions to run for Lawrence County Sheriff.
