Route P Chosen as Preferred Route for Mid-State Corridor

AREA - ( April 11, 2021) - The Indiana Department of Transportation has announced that the preferred route for the " Mid States Corridor" that will connect southern Indiana Communities to Interstate - 69.

The Indiana Department of Transportation has chosen "Alternative P" over the other options. This was announced in the classified section of the Courier Press on Monday.

According to the notice the stretch will start at U.S. 231 in Spencer County and use the existing highway until it will hit Interstate 64.

The new highway will run 54 miles will branch off and run parallel to U.S. 231 north and south before ending at Interstate -69 just north of Crane.

This route will mostly by-pass "developed" parts of towns along the highway including the Jasper and Loogootee.

Indiana Department of Transportation will have two public hearings the first being on April 26, 2022 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at WestGate Academy in Odon. The second meeting will be April 28 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Jasper Arts Center on the Vincennes University Jasper Campus.

Those who cannot make the meeting can submit written comments via email, through the Mid-States Corridor website, or by writing to the project office.


The Lawrence County Coalition scheduled a meeting on April 22, 2022 at 6:30 p.m. to oppose the highway going through Orange County.
