Ribbon cutting ceremony at new Bedford Police station on Tuesday afternoon

BEDFORD - NOVEMBER 28, 2023 - On Tuesday afternoon Bedford Mayor Sam Craig and Bedford Police Chief Terry Moore cut the ribbon for their new modernized police station.

" Today is a great day for the City of Bedford, let me repeat that again today is a great day for the City of Bedford. After being elected I asked my city council to tour some of our facilities in the city. We all agreed the police department with its condition of the building, size of the building, the police department needed a new facilty, said Mayor Craig.

Mayor Craig a former police officer himself worked out of the old department for 21 years. The goal of Mayor Craig following his election it was one of the buildings that needed to be replaced.


The old Bedford Police Station was used both as a fire station and police station since the early 1900s.



Mayor Craig thanked his departments heads and Bedford Police Chief Terry Moore for all their work in getting he facility prepared which is now open to the public.

Mayor Craig also thanked city attorney James " Greg" Pittman for all the legal work required for acquiring the building and property, that was formely Aldi's Grocery store.


In addition, he thanked Bedford Redeveloped helped with the $3 million facility with Tax Incremental Financing and no bonds were used for the purchase or its construction.




Several braved the cold temps and wind to attend the special event. This should serve the residents of the City of Bedford for years to come.



A plague honoring the memory of Bedford Police Officer George J. Carney who died in the line of duty sits under the flag pole on the west side of the police station.
