HELTONVILLE - DECEMBER 9, 2022 - The re-count in the Pleasant Run Township Advisory Board race will begin today at 9:00 a.m. in Lawrence County Circuit Court.

The Lawrence County Circuit Court Judge Nathan Nikirk granted the petition by the Libertarian Party on behalf of Carrie Atkins that was filed on November 28, 2022. There will be a manual recount of the absentee ballots cast in the November 8, 2002, Election to be held on this Friday morning at 9:00 a.m.

The Libertarian Party of Lawrence County being represented by Justin Grant, Attorney at law who filed the petition on November 28, 2022.

The following people have been appointed to the Recount Commission which include Jim Pitman, Republican member, John Castrale, Democrat member, and Elizabeth Jones, Mechanic.

The recount commission has convened in the courtroom at the Lawrence County Courthouse on December 6, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. for the purpose of being sworn, adopting procedures, setting the date for the recount and the final arguments before the commission and resolving other matters.

Lawrence County Clerk Billie Tumey has already secured all voting related materials and the court is in possession of the voting materials.

Each of the recount commission will receive $100 for each day actually engaged in the official recount being paid by the Libertarian Party and Lawrence County General Fund.

Both Carrie Atkins and James Edsel Ford received 171 votes after the absentee ballots were counted. Should the tie remain. The Pleasant Run Township Advisory board will decide who will take the seat by Indiana State law.
