Person Dies in Martinsville Apartment Fire Friday night

MARTINSVILLE - JULY 8, 2023 - According to Martinsville Fire Department at 9:28 P.M. Friday night, Morgan County Public Safety Dispatch received a 911 call reporting a residence fire with entrapment in the 900 block of S. Home Ave.

Martinsville Police Department units that were in the area arrived within moments.


Martinsville Police officers confirmed the report of entrapment and attempted to rescue the resident, however conditions rapidly deteriorated and attempts were unsuccessful.


Martinsville Fire Department firefighters along with Washington Twp Fire Department arrived just minutes after MPD. Firefighters immediately made entry and brought the fire under control within five minutes.


Sadly, during a primary search of the residence firefighters located and confirmed the resident of the apartment along with a canine died.



The cause of the fire is under investigation by MFD’s fire marshal along with investigators from the Indiana State Fire Marshal Office, Washington Twp., Monroe Twp. and Brooklyn Vol. Fire Department.
