OPEN BURN CAUSES FIELD FIRE IN SPRINGVILLE

SPRINGVILLE - NOVEMBER 23, 2022 - Children burning boxes from a burn pit got out of control Wednesday afternoon near Springville,

The Perry Township Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a field fire at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday afternoon at the intersection of Bedford Street and Indiana State Road 54.



Firefighters requested an additional brush truck and manpower from the Indian Creek Township to help get the fire under control.

Approximately one to two acres burned before firefighters was able to get the fire out.



Dry windy conditions keep firefighters busy fighting wildland fires from August to November which the fire season has been expanded.


Over 100 acres burned in Brown County State Park on Sunday sending several fire departments and the Indiana Department of Natural Resources to fight that fire.


Indian Creek Township, Perry Township, Marshall and Oolitic Volunteer Fire Department responded to a field fire that extended into a barn Tuesday.


An open burn on Fay/Owen Road led to a field fire that wind pushed into a barn Tuesday afternoon


Locally, Marion Township, Mitchell, U.S. Forestry Service and Huron fire departments responded or placed on stand-by due to two-acre fire on Burton Cemetery Road. Tuesday afternoon.


Marshall Township Volunteer Fire Department responded to a wildland fire in the 1500 block of Judah/Logan Road on Wednesday night.


Due to dry conditions fire officials are requesting that no one do any open burning at this time. The recommendation is falling on deaf ears and burn bans seem to be ineffective throughout southern Indiana.
