OOLITIC - (December 13, 2021) - An Oolitic 5th grader at Dollens Elementary School is raising funds to buy safety head and taillights for all the Oolitic Middle School students.

Mya Kirby lost her friend Camden Moore while riding his bicycle with his father on December 23, 2020.

The accident occurred at 5:43 p.m. on Vista Drive near Meadowview Lane in Oolitic during the evening hours was becoming dark.

Myra Kirby has started the fundraiser to get bicycles lighted following this tragedy, for safety.

In her efforts which begin Sunday her campaign had surpassed her goal for the 5th grade class, and she is just now needs only $350 more to purchase the remaining light sets needed for every student grade K-6 to have a set.

Once this goal is met Mya want to be able to have a set for all the middle school students. At the current time donations can be made in person or via Facebook pay, PayPal, or Paypal to ohmanderjo@gmail.com

Lawrence County Zephyr will be doing an interview with her later this afternoon to find out more about this project.
