Oolitic Marshal Makes Drug Arrest Following Traffic Stop

OOLITIC - NOVEMBER 12, 2022 - At 12:36 am on Saturday 11/12/2022, Marshal James Harrington conducted a traffic stop on Indiana State Road 37 Southbound Lane at 5th Street.



The vehicle was a silver 2012 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, and he was assisted by Bedford Police Department Officer Clay Blackburn, Bedford Police Department Captain Chase Hamilton, Lawrence County Sheriff Department Deputy Travis Atchison, and Lawrence County Sheriff DepartmentCorporal Whitney Daugherty.


The vehicle was occupied by three adult white male individuals, and the stop was conducted after Marshal Harrington observed the vehicle traveling in Oolitic with the passenger’s side headlamp out, no license plate lights, and the driver wasn’t able to maintain his lane of travel, and the driver drove onto the shoulder of the roadway at least twice.


K-9 Deny


Canine Deny Joe was deployed for a free air sniff around the truck, and he alerted on the rear driver’s side rear door.


During a search of the truck, officers located two 9 mm handguns, and a metal container that contains residue that field tested positive as Methamphetamine.


It was determined that the metal container belongs to the driver/owner of the truck, Sheldon Jacob Michael Troutt, and Mr.


Troutt was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Lawrence County Security Center, where he was lodged for Possession of Methamphetamine, Level 5 Felony and Possession of Methamphetamine, Level 6 Felony.
