Oolitic Marshal make arrest during traffic for drug offenses - Town Officials assist children

OOLITIC - MARCH 19, 2023 - On Thursday 03/16/2023 at approximately 6:00 pm, Oolitic Marshal's Office Sergeant Shaun Cabral conducted a traffic stop on State Road 54 (Westbound) at the intersection of State Road 37, on a white Nissan passenger car bearing a Kentucky registration, that was occupied by an adult male, an adult female, and two small juvenile children.

During the stop, Sergeant Cabral recovered a glass vial containing suspected Methamphetamine, a glass smoking pipe containing suspected Methamphetamine residue, and a THC vape pen.

The adults were determined to be the parents of the children, and at least one of the parents admitted that they smoked Methamphetamine in the children’s presence. The adults were arrested for Possession of Methamphetamine with Enhancing Circumstances a Level 5 Felony, Neglect of a Dependent a Level 6 Felony, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia a Class C Misdemeanor.

The adult male was transported to the Lawrence County Security Center where he was lodged for said offenses, and the adult female and the two children were transported to the Oolitic Marshal’s Office by Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Robin Compton and Sergeant Cabral, where the mother remained with the children until DCS arrived and took custody of the children, at which time Lawrence County Sheriff's Office Deputy Travis Atchison transported the mother to the LCSC where she was remanded on the above mentioned charges.

While at the Marshal’s Office, Oolitic Town Council President Tangie Jenkins and her mother provided food and beverages for the mother and her children, a teenage female juvenile from an unrelated incident whom was also in the custody of the Marshal’s Office, and the Officers; and Oolitic Town Clerk Annette Pritchett Norrick donated several toys to the two small juveniles, in an attempt to help make a stressful situation less stressful to them.

The compassion and professionalism that Council President Jenkins and her mother, Clerk Norrick, Sergeant Cabral, Deputy Compton, and Deputy Atchison displayed is commendable, they went above and beyond to try to help comfort a family during a stressful time in their lives, and this is one of many reasons why I’m proud to serve as Oolitic’s Town Marshal.
