One person found dead, one person treated for smoke inhalation in Morgan County residential fire

PARAGON - JANUARY 28, 2024 - On Sunday morning at 08:20 A.M Morgan County Public Safety Dispatch received a call of a residence fire with possible entrapment in the 200 block of Arthur Road, which is southwest of Paragon.

Martinsville Engine 141, Chief 1401, Chief 1402 , Fire Marshal 1409 along with various other area fire departments were called to assist Paragon Volunteer Fire Company.




Firefighters arrived to find a “fully involved” log cabin type home which had partially collapsed into the basement. The fire was brought under control within two hours.


Another occupant who was living at that location was transported by Morgan County EMS to a local area hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.


After the fire was extinguished., fire investigators from Martinsville Fire Department, Washington Twp., and the Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Office along with Detectives from the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office located a deceased person, at that time the Morgan County Coroner’s office was notified.


The cause of the fire remains under investigation and there is no additional information available at this time.


"We ask that you keep the family of the deceased in your thoughts and prayers. Additionally, we’d like to remind everyone to make sure you have a working smoke alarm," said Martinsville Fire Department in a press release Sunday night.
