One person dies following two separate accidents - the second accident involved three motorcycles this weekend

MONROE COUNTY - MARCH 4, 2024 - The Monroe County Sheriff's Department responded to two separate accidents that one left one person dead, and three motorcyclists seriously injured over the weekend.

On Saturday, March 2, 2024 at 7:57 PM, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash at Chambers Pike and Wayport Road. Upon Deputies arrival, they located a vehicle with a single occupant. The individual was later pronounced dead on the scene by the Monroe County Coroner.


The investigation is showing the vehicle left the roadway for an unknown reason.


The identity is being withheld at this time, while the Monroe County Coroner‘s Office works with the family to make the proper notifications.


Monroe County Sheriff's Department were assisted by the Monroe County Coroner‘s Office, Monroe Fire Protection District, and IU Health Ambulance Service.


On Sunday, March 3, 2024, at 3:55 P.M., the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office responded to South State Road 446 and East Salt Creek Drive for a crash involving three motorcycles.


Upon Deputies arrival they assisted in rendering aid to all three motorcyclists, and one had to be life lined from the scene for severe lower leg injuries.


As a result, South State Road 446 was shut down for two hours while our accident reconstructionist investigated the scene. This accident is still under investigation.

Monroe County Sheriff's Department were assisted by Monroe Fire Protection District and IU Health Ambulance Service.
