Mya Kirby Just approximately $700 from Fundraising Goal

OOLTIIC - (December 15, 2021) - Mya Kirby a fifth grader at Dollens Elementary School has set out to honor the memory of her longtime friend Camden Moore.

Mya Kirby works to provide bicycle safety equipment to all the students of Oolitic Campus

Mya and Camden were friends since kindergarten. " We were really good friends," said Mya Kirby.

Honoring the memory of Camden Moore fellow student Mya Kirby is raising funds for all the students at her school

Mya lost her friend while riding a bicycle with his father on December 23, 2020.

The accident itself occurred at 5:43 p.m. on Vista Drive near Meadowview Lane in the evening hours and was just beginning to become dark.

" I do not know whether he had lighting on his bicycle or not but wanted my whole fifth grade class to have this safety equipment," said Kirby.

The equipment will include front and back lighting for the bicycle.

" After I started fundraising, we raised enough for my class and then decided to raise enough funds for the whole elementary school,"

At the present time the youth has raised $1,100 and needs about $700 more to have enough equipment for both Dollen Elementary Students and Oolitic Middle School students.

Due to trying to finish the project for every student at the Oolitic campus the equipment will not be distributed until after the students return after Christmas break.

" I want to thank you all for supporting my project, and Camden was just a wonderful person," said Mya.

Donations can be made in person or via Facebook pay, PayPal, to ohmanderjo@gmail.com

Lawrence County Zephyr has been invited to watch the safety equipment be distributed to the students in January.
