Murder suspect Casey Brown released from U of L Hospital and is booked into Lawrence County Jail

LAWRENCE COUNTY - MARCH 10, 2024 - The murder suspect of Kobe Stancombe 21, Bedford, Indiana is now behind bars in the Lawrence County Jail.

Casey Brown, 38 of Fort Ritner was arrested on a probation violation and is expected to be formerly be charged with the murder of Stancombe later this week.


Brown was booked into Lawrence County Jail at 11:00 am Friday morning.

Brown was in a standoff with police in Paoli, after police began looking for Brown and Bradley Harper on the same day of the murder.


Harper has not been arrested in connection to the murder of Stancombe at this time.

Brown was flown by helicopter following a self- inflicted gun shot wound and remained at U of L Hospital until being released on Friday.


The Lawrence County Jail Division rotated out jail staff as Brown was kept in custody at the hospital.


Louisville Metro Police Department did not have the staff to keep watch on Brown.

The probation charge stems from May 2023 when Brown barricaded himself in a barn at his Fort Ritner residence and threatened police officers with an explosive device.


Brown was arrested for Failure to appear on the original charge of criminal recklessness with a firearm on that day. Brown refused to come out of the barn for more than four hours.


A SWAT team eventually entered the barn to take Brown into custody. Brown was charged for the active warrant and the additional charges of resisting law enforcement, intimidation, possession of a hoax device, and disorderly conduct.


Brown entered into a plea agreement with the Lawrence County Prosecutors Office Sam Arp II and his attorney Denise Turner.


On August 31st, 2023, Lawrence County Judge John Plummer III suspended Brown's 910 days to the Indiana Department of Corrections on possession of a hoax device, and sentenced him to one year on probation.


Brown's remaining charges was dismissed by Lawrence County Prosecutor Samuel Arp II in the plea agreement.
