Mitchell man sentenced to 906 days to Department of Corrections

LAWRENCE COUNTY - MARCH 2, 2023 - Superior Court II Judge Robert Cline sentenced a Mitchell man to 906 days in the Indiana Department of corrections for continued probation violations.




Joshua Mills, 45 was previously arrested in March of 2020 for Auto Theft a level 6 Felony, Conversion a level 6 Felony, Possession of Methamphetamine a level 6 Felony and Unlawful possession of a Syringe a level 6 Felony. Mills plead guilty to Possession of Methamphetamine a level 6 Felony as part of a negotiated plea with the State of Indiana. As part of the plea agreement, he was sentenced to probation where he continued to violate the terms. As a result of Mill’s continued probation violations, Judge Cline sentenced Joshua Mills to 906 days in the Indiana Department of Corrections as a result of his actions.


“Mr. Mills was giving ample opportunity to succeed and was unsuccessful. Hopefully, he will take advantage of the programs offered in prison and return as a productive member of Lawrence County.” Samuel Arp II


On January 26, 2023 Mitchell Police officers went to serve an arrest warrant in the 40 block of Russell Drive. When the officers went to serve a warrant for petition to revoke.


When the Mitchell Police Officers arrived the spotted Mills behind the camper, and he took off running.


Officers followed and while Mills was running, he dropped a black object.


Mills ran through small limbs and trees and down a small embankment when officers used a TASER and ordered Mills to stop.


During the stop Mills discarded a glass smoking device and later discarded a syringe. Officers got within 15-20 feet of Mills and an officer fired his TASER, causing Mills to fall to the ground.


Officers found 2 grams of crystal meth and retrieved the other items discarded during the foot chase.


In the January incident Mills faced charges of possession of meth, unlawful possession of a syringe, resisting arrest, and obstruction of justice.
