Firefighter Evers joins Battalion 1 and Bedford Fire Chief Luke Pinnick says one more firefighter needs to be hired before the department is back fully staffed.

" Early 2019 I decided to get involved in firefighting," said Evers. Evers is a 2018 Mitchell graduate and his friend Caleb Loboski encouraged him to join Marion Township Volunteer Fire Department. This is where Evers desire to be a firefighter began.

The five years on the Marion Township has helped Evers with some experience and he already has completed Firefighting I and II training.

Now, Evers must learn Bedford Fire Department's equipment and policies and procedures. Evers will spend the next year getting oriented to his new role.

Several firefighters from Marion Township have joined Bedford Fire Department over the last several years and have made it their professional career.

Both the Bedford Fire Department and Police Department have faced high turnover for a wide range of reasons over the years.

Retirements from the men and women of both departments has created a void in experience and knowledge in both agencies.
