Mitchell Community School Captial Improvement Projects Moving Right Along

MITCHELL - NOVEMBER 17, 2022 - The capital improvement project is moving forward at the Mitchell Community Schools system. Work continues on the Baseball, Softball fields, Maintenace Building, and transforming the school buildings for other types of classes and students.


This includes being more inclusive to all students with the weight room being transformed to accommodate the special needs students.


The Junior High School have STEM and STEAM classrooms will address the needs of the new expanding curriculum.



Work at Mitchell Community School continues with several capital improvement projects


The capital improvement project includes over $16.8 Million with no tax increase to taxpayers. In fact, over the next year, the taxpayers will receive small tax decrease despite all of the improvements underway. The cost of the project may be an over the proposed cost with fees, bond interest rates and other unforeseeable costs.


At this time the costs are still a little under what was anticipated.

Workers continue to get the baseball field at Mitchell complete - winter weather may soon slow down some of the work until spring

There have been a few setbacks including the delay of delivery of some steel beams for the fieldhouse.


Safety and traffic improvements at Hatfield Elementary and Burris Elementary will be addressed as the capital improvement projects continue with a three-year time frame


Contractors continue to work before winter keeps prevents them from being able to work.


List of projects include:


  • Auxiliary gym with concession for $5 Million

  • Elementary school traffic improvements for $1.1 Million

  • Roofing projects $1,022,000

  • Athletic improvements - Practice facility $1,100,000

  • Terry Cole Field Turf Project - $850,000

  • Infield turf project for both baseball and softball fields - $1.5 Million

  • Maintenance building - $1 Million

  • Junior and High School roofing - $765,000

  • HVAC/Chiller - $100,000

  • STEAM/LAB Renovations - $100,000

New softball turf field, concession area and fieldhouse are all in the being added at the Mitchell Community School property off of Hancock Avenue in Mitchell.


Mitchell Community School Superintendent informed the school board members of the status of all the building projects and is thrilled to see the progress at this time.
