Martin County Council Decides Against EMS Local Income Tax for County Ambulance Service

MARTIN COUNTY - OCTOBER 25, 2022 - The Martin County Council has decided not to pursue the Emergency Medical Services Local Income Tax to help fund the newly formed Martin County Ambulance Service.

The public meeting and adoption have been cancelled for Wednesday night's meeting scheduled at 6:00 p.m. at the Shoals Community Schools.

The Martin County Ambulance Service was started in August of this year after Knox County Ambulance Service discontinued service the morning of August 22, 2022. The Knox County EMS was to provide services up to June 30, 2023.

After all the hospitals surrounding Martin County did not feel they could provide EMS coverage. The Martin County Commissioners helped form a Martin County Ambulance Service.

The new county-based ambulance service continues to provide EMS services to Martin County.

At this time the new service has responded to 162 emergency calls in Martin County.
