Man Receives Seven Year Prison Sentence

SPRINGVILLE - (April 1, 2022) -BEDFORD – Lawrence Superior Court II Judge Bob Cline sentenced a Bedford man to more than seven years in the Indiana Department of Correction for drug possession, being a habitual offender and failing to comply with the terms of his probation.

Roger L. Walls, Jr., 52, pleaded guilty Thursday to possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony, and he was sentenced to five years in prison, as a part of a negotiated plea agreement with the State of Indiana.

In addition, Judge Cline added 850 days to his sentence for violating probation.

Walls was arrested March 15, 2022, by a Mitchell Police officer who saw him and knew he was wanted on a warrant for petition to revoke probation. When he was arrested on the warrant, officers found him in possession of methamphetamine, marijuana and paraphernalia. He also resisted arrest.

The plea agreement outlined a prison sentence of one year for the methamphetamine charge and four years for being a habitual offender.

“This was an appropriate sentence for a man who has an extensive criminal history,” said Lawrence County Prosecuting Attorney Samuel C. Arp II. “Before I took office, I promised that my office would be tough on drug crimes and those who continually cycle through the criminal justice system, and here we are, almost four years later, continuing to make that a priority.”
