Lightning Strike Residence Causing a Fire in Monroe County Monday Morning

MONROE COUNTY - (April 11, 2022) – Monroe Fire Protection District responded to the 3000 block of Mt. Gilead Road around 11:00 a.m. today for a reported structure fire.

Lightning struck a residence this morning causing a fire at a residence in Monroe County

Firefighters arrived on scene and found smoke and fire coming from the attic on the left side of the home.

Firefighters conducted a transitional attack on the fire starting from the outside and then moving inside the home once additional firefighters arrived on scene to help.

The fire was located in the small attic space above the second-floor ceiling.

Firefighters had a little trouble getting to the fire as the ceiling was pitched and covered

with shiplap wood. Once firefighters were able to remove some of the shiplap, they were

able to extinguish the rest of the fire.

The cause of the fire was ruled a lightning strike from weather that occurred this

morning.
