Lehigh - Hanson Donates $40,000 to Marion Township Rural Volunteer Fire Department

MITCHELL - JULY 20, 2022 - Wednesday morning, Lehigh- Hanson provided Marion Twp Fire Dept with a donation of $40,000 towards the purchase of Rescue Equipment.

"We will be updating our High and Low angle rope rescue equipment with the donation. Our members have trained on rope rescue many times and are extremely proficient on the rescue techniques used. Just like everything in the Fire and EMS world everything has an expiration date, and rope rescue equipment is no different. With the K4 project, Lehigh Hanson, caves, sinkholes and steep terrain in our response area it is a low frequency call but a high priority when we need it. Past Fire Chiefs at Marion had the foresight to establish this rescue capability within our department, I'm keeping it going and plan to expand on the equipment and capabilities." said Marion Twp. Rural Volunteer Fire Chief Paul Gillespie.

Marion Township VFD will respond to high and low angle rope rescue incidents inside Marion and Bono Townships and per the mutual aid agreement, to any area that calls and needs Rope Rescue.

"Marion Twp Fire Officers, Firefighters and Board are extremely grateful to Lehigh Hanson and the K4 project for the donation. This will allow us to keep this very needed technical rescue capability going for the next decade. Not just for the Lehigh plant, but for all the citizens and visitors to our area and county if needed." Gillespie concluded.
