MITCHELL - ( April 1, 2022) - The Lawrence County Town Hall Coalition will meet on April 21, 2022 starting at 6:30 p.m. The meeting will take place at the Emerson Gym located on 8th Street in Mitchell.

Signs like this can be seen in Lawrence County around Mitchell and along State Road 450 near Williams

The Town Hall meeting is arranged by people from Lawrence and surrounding counties.

Concerns about the Mid-States Corridor Project from the Sierra Club and other groups on the proposed project.

The Mid-States Corridor Regional Development Authority (RDA) and Indiana Department of Transportation are conducting a required Tiered I Environmental Study to identify a perferred corridor and have published maps of several different routes across southern Indiana that will be narrowed down to Mitchell and then new terrain highway should be constructed starting at the light in Mitchell heading west on U.S. 60 briefly before taking an extreme turn south through Orange County farmland and important karst drainage areas in Lost River Basin.

According to a Facebook post from the group says:

"Roads have never been built there for a reason and the people that lie in the path of this highway do not want it and don't need it,"

According to the group that is why the Coalition Against Mid-States Corridor has organized to say to both the RDA and INDOT that the people from Dubious, Martin and Orange Counties do not want this highway.

The questions remains what does the people of Lawrence County want? This meeting will allow for print outs and maps of the proposed route, and hear the conversation about the plans has for Lawrence County.
