Lawrence County Sheriff's Department has busy weekend with crashes and arrests

LAWRENCE COUNTY - JULY 10, 2023 - On July 8th, Officers Kenton Carter and Kinsley Duncan witness a personal injury crash at Indiana State Road 37 and Old State Road 37.


A vehicle, driven by Devon McCurry (27 years old of Hardinsburg) rear-ended another vehicle, forcing it to hit another vehicle. McCurry drove away from the scene and attempted to hide behind a local gas station.


However, officers apprehended him. A search warrant was obtained for a blood draw for possible intoxication.


McCurry was arrested for Leaving the Scene of a Serious Bodily Crash, Driving While Suspended with a Prior Conviction, and an active felony warrant out of Orange County.

On July 9th, Officers Duncan and Carter responded to a report of a domestic dispute in the 500 block of Thompson Lane.


A female reported that Lewis Green (62 years old of Mitchell) would not let her leave and then pushed her. After completing the investigation into the incident, officers arrested Green for domestic battery and confinement.


On July 9th, officers responded to assist Mitchell Police Department with a vehicle pursuit.


The male driver, later identified as Dalton Burton (26 years old of Mitchell) fled from his vehicle on Grindstone Hollow Road. LCSO Sgt. Michael Williams deployed his canine, Fleck, for a track.


Fleck located Burton hiding in a downed tree in a nearby creek. Burton attempted to run, but Fleck apprehended him. Officers took Burton into custody.


In addition to investigating six crashes, officers also responded to multiple calls involving things such as theft, vandalism, unsafe shooting, unwanted persons, and psychological problems. Officers conducted 21 traffic stops and have open investigations on multiple reports, where warrants will be requested.


Lawrence County Sheriff's Department responded to an injury accident on Sunday night on Kings Ridge Road.
