Lawrence County Sheriff Applying For Victims of Crimes Act Grant

LAWRENCE COUNTY - ( March 30, 2022) - The Lawrence County Sheriff Mike Branham has applied for a VOCA Grant.

The primary purpose of the VOCA Grant Program is to support the provision of services to victims of sexual assault, domestic violence, child abuse, and previously underserved victims throughout the state. VOCA assists public agencies and nonprofit organizations in carrying out specific projects related to direct victim services. Services, for the purpose of this grant, are defined as follows those efforts that:

  • Respond to the emotional and physical needs of crime victims;

  • Assist primary and secondary victims of crime stabilize their lives after victimization;

  • Assist victims to understand and participate in the criminal justice system; and

  • Provide victims of crime with a measure of safety and security such as boarding up broken windows and replacing or repairing locks.

Priority is given to victims of child abuse, domestic violence, sexual assault, and victims of violent crime who were previously underserved. The underserved victims may include, but are not limited to, victims of federal crimes, survivors of homicide, assault, robbery, economic exploitation and fraud, victims of DUI crashes, adults molested as children, adult/elder abuse, robbery, and hate/bias crimes.


This program will support the already existing victims assistance program started by the Lawrence County Prosecutor's office.


This will allow give victims quicker response to their needs, before meeting with the prosecutor's office.

The $200,000 grant will help pay for one social worker, vehicle, supplies and materials for the program. The grant itself is expected to last two years, at no cost to the Lawrence County taxpayers.


The legal system in Indiana has now transformed to help the victims of crimes and support their needs.
