Lawrence County Residents Enjoy Labor Day Weekend with Several Events

LAWRENCE COUNTY - SEPTEMBER 4, 2022 - The rainy weather did not dampen the fun, and excitement for Lawrence County residents this Labor Day Weekend.

Fireworks display and car show was the highlight at Mundell Christian Church Sunday night

There was plenty of activities that families were able to enjoy and participate in; at several locations throughout the county.

Car Show was held at Mundell Christian Church on Sunday evening

The annual Lawrence County Cancer Patient Services Car Show and fundraising event was held at Hobson Ford on Saturday. The event raised over $29,000 despite the rain that hoovered over the event. The group spends over $100,000 a year to assist cancer patients in their needs that insurance does not cover. All the money raised remains in Lawrence County.

The 27th Annual Claude Akins Classic was held over the weekend in addition to the other events just mentioned. On Saturday, the golfers were able to get in approximately 11 holes of golf before they had to discontinue the play on Saturday afternoon.

On Sunday morning the event started under gray skies and the sun eventually smiled down on the event with a lot of amateur golfers having a ball (excuses the pun) and the more skilled even having a better time.

Lawrence County Zephyr will have a photo album of the Claude Akins Classic in another story.

This year's event had over 108 teams entered into the golfer's paradise at Otis Park Golf Course on Saturday and Sunday.

Lawrence County Zephyr will update the Claude Akins Classic later on Monday when more information becomes available.

Pleasant Run Ball Park Association held their fundraiser in support of youth activities in the Heltonville community. The fireworks and parade had to be cancelled due to weather. However, both have been re-scheduled for October 22, during their Halloween event at the Heltonville Ball Park.
