MITCHELL - FEBRUARY 9, 2024 - The Lawrence County Redevelopment Commission has tabled the funding request for the Marion Township Volunteer Fire Department request using Lehigh TIF funds in their meeting Thursday.

"The prior Township Trustee and the new Trustee have both seen that we have outgrown our building. They have both worked with our Fire Board to get this project going. I'm in great hopes that this time next year we'll be responding out of a new building with greater capabilities for us and the communities we protect" said Paul Gillespie in a previous news story.

Back in August of 2022 there was questions of who would own the fire station.

At this time there is questions on what the funding will go towards, which could be the renovation and expansion of the fire station or whether it would be used for Equipment and Training.

Under new Indiana State law that was passed in the legislature TIF funds can now be used for public safety such as police and fire protection.

The Marion Township trustee and advisory board are also working out other agreements on whether fire department will transfer the property over to the township or remain with the fire department as property owners.

The details are still being worked on between Marion Township and the Lawrence County RDC.
