Lawrence County Police Agencies and Prosecutor Arp work to fight crime throughout the year

LAWRENCE COUNTY - AUGUST 25, 2023 - Lawrence County Police agencies and Lawrence County Prosecutor Samuel Arp II have been busy throughout the year fighting crime.

The Lawrence County council was updated on the amount of work the police departments have done to fight crime and make the Lawrence County communities safe.


In addition to the information Arp presented about the local police agencies, prosecutor went on to give the council members on what the Lawrence County Prosecutor Office have done over the year.



From January 1, 2023 to August 22, 2023 the Prosecutor released the following information and statistics.


Arrests by agencies:


  • Bedford Police Department - 262

  • Lawrence County Sheriff Department - 227

  • Indiana State Police - 73

  • Mitchell Police Department - 72

  • Oolitic Police Department - 14

  • Indiana Conservation - 6

Total arrests : 654


Lawrence County Prosecutor Office Caseload

  • Prosecutor Arp - 479

  • Cummings - 389

  • Scherschel - 269 with Level 1 - 5 felonies 194

  • Garrett - 260

  • Grant -156

Total Open cases : 1553

During this year's budget cycle the Prosecutor's budget is proposed at $705,076 compared to last year's budget of $523,185 This is an increase of $181,891, this will allow for another investigator and part-time deputy prosecutor.
