Lawrence County Celebrates WW II Vet 100th Birthday

LAWRENCE COUNTY - (March 6, 2022) - Lawrence County Celebrated Lester Saunders 100th Birthday at Wilson Park. Family, friends, neighbors, and community members made their way to congratulate the WW II Veteran on this once in a lifetime moment.

More than 100 birthday cards congratulate Lester Saunders on his special day.


Saunders served in the Army from 1942-1945 entering in the at the young age of 20. Les has many stories to tell all who would just sit and listen a while.


Two WW II Vets have a talk - Left Les Saunders and Right James Lee Hutchinson, Hutchinson will turn 96 in June





The Wilson Park Shelter house was packed with the well-wishers and by the way he did receive over 100 birthday cards.




Life for Les was full of all the seasons that one could experience fun, excitement, tears, sorrow, and much more. Les congratulations on your 100th and working towards a few more birthdays. Thank you for your service and being the person, you are.




Lester was presented a " Quilt of Valor" from the Southern Indiana Quilts of Valor Organization. More about that presentation in another story.
