Lawrence County Zephyr caught up with Sara Kern who talked about her entry into this year's event. The 1929 Model A Ford Roadster that was made into a hot rod.

" We acquired the car from Carl Kinser " World of Outlaws" Sprint Car Driver who was a family friend. We bought it from him in the 1960s without a engine in it. We put the engine in; on our honeymoon. We put the engine in and drove it to the dragstrip in Terre Haute the next weekend," said Sarah Kern.

" It has been something special to us over 62 years. My husband, myself and the car, we always enjoyed the car and had a lot of fun without over the years. The Kerns have attended Bedford Parks Department at least four times over the years.

For the Kern family the legacy of cars and trucks have continued on in their son, Cale and granddaughter Carlee.

A 1963 Chevy Pickup was rebuilt with Cale Kern and his daughter Carlee with her dad owning an Automotive Shop in Bedford.

" It took us about a year and half together to build. I welded the chassis together, full tube underslung chassis. I rebuilt the engine; it is LS 5.3 Engine. Dad and his brother done the paint job, and my dad done the body work. Bryan Barlow, Interior by Ed done the interior work for the truck.

" This feels really good to be a part of this. This is something that will always be part of me, knowing that this is something I will always have," This was a father, and daughter project that was something fun for both.

Karlee Kern is a freshman at USI, who studies Mechanical Engineering.

The annual Car Show held at the Thorton Park is a fundraiser for the Bedford Parks Department to fund various projects for the parks department. Saturday with clear, skies was a perfect day for the event.
