Jury Acquits Bloomington man Dealing in a Controlled Substance Resulting in Death in four day trial last week.

LAWRENCE COUNTY - APRIL 2, 2024 - A jury has acquited a Bloomington man of Level 1 Felony count on Dealing in a Controlled Substance Resulting in Death-Schedule 1, 2 and 3 Controlled substance.

The jury trial lasted four days with Lawrence County Superior Court II Judge Bob Cline presiding.


Lawrence County Prosecutor Samuel Arp II, prsented the case for the State of Indiana, and Chief Public Defender Tim Sledd and Public Defender representing Arron Reynolds.



Arron Reynolds, Bloomington was arrested on Wednesday, September 12, 2023 by detectives from the Indiana State Police’s Drug Enforcement Section, South Zone ERT, Bloomington District Troopers, and Jasper District Troopers at approximately 9:30 am.




According to a probable cause affidavit, in May 2023, a female was found deceased in her Bedford home. As a result of an autopsy, it was determined the cause of death was Fentanyl toxicity. In August 2023, detectives from the Drug Enforcement Section initiated an investigation into her death.


Detectives determined Reynolds had sold the female subject a controlled substance leading to her death.



Detectives applied for an arrest warrant through the Lawrence County Prosecutor’s Office.


Detectives located Reynolds at the Crawford Apartments in Bloomington. He was arrested without incident and a search warrant was executed at his apartment.


In 2018, Indiana lawmakers made dealing drugs resulting in death a crime punishable by up to 40 years in prison.


Dealing a controlled substance resulting in death is a Level 1 felony. The penalties for a Level 1 felony can include a prison term ranging from 20 to 40 years, along with an advisory sentence of 30 years for aggravating circumstances.
