January Beginning Beekeeping Class to be held at Central Church of Christ Ed Building

BEDFORD - JANUARY 3,, 2023 - Our annual Beginning Beekeeper Class is a one-day event that takes place in January and serves as an introduction to the basics of beekeeping. The class will be taught by Master Beekeeper Bill Spurlin.

This class is FREE and will be held Saturday Jan.27th 2024 from 9am to 2 m. Please RSVP as soon as you can Register @

Class will be at Central Church of Christ Ed building, 1401 12th Street in Bedford.

This class will cover the consideration to start keeping honeybees, equipment needed to keep bees, how to obtain and introduce the bees to their hive, inspection and what to look for in the hive, how to harvest honey from your hive and questions and answers.

Instructor Bill Spurlin grew up on a farm in IN. He moved to Kentucky during his career as a machinist, returning home in 2002. He started Spurlin Homestead Farm in 2013 where he has a garden, fruit trees, grape and blackberry vines, rabbits, chickens, and bees. Bill is a vendors at their local Farmer’s Market and Bill serves as president of the board.

Bill is an advanced Indiana Master Naturalist and is the Program Coordinator for the Sullivan County IMN, a Jump Start Program Committee chairman for the Indiana State Beekeepers Association and Region 5 Director. He is retired and works full time on his homestead farm and vacation rentals.
