Intoxicated Petersburg Man Sets House on Fire

PETERSBURG - JUNE 25, 2022 - A Petersburg man set his house on fire Saturday morning, while being intoxicated. Law enforcement officials from Petersburg and Pike County Sheriff's Department responded to the home earlier in the evening Friday night and left the male in his residence.

At 1:27 a.m. Pike County Central Dispatch received a call reporting the male set his house on fire located at 305 South Martin Street in Petersburg.


Law enforcement officers from Petersburg Police Department, Pike County Sheriff's Department, Indiana State Police, as well as the Petersburg Fire Department and Pike County Ambulance service responded to the location.


Officers from the police department was able to get the fire put out using fire extinguishers from their patrol vehicles. The male was taken into custody by the police department who was found on the porch of his residence when officers arrived.


No other information is available at this time.


The Indiana State Fire Marshal's Office was also contacted for an arson investigation.
