LAWRENCE COUNTY - MAY 10 - 2022 - At 4:15 a.m. today, May 10, 2022, a male detainee in custody at the Lawrence County Jail was found unresponsive from an apparent suicide.

"Corrections Officers promptly started resuscitation procedures, including CPR and AED, and continued until emergency medical personnel arrived at the jail. At that time EMS personnel determined the individual was deceased," According to a press release by Lawrence County Sheriff Mike Branham.
The deceased detainee is identified as Andrew Smith, 49, Bloomington, Indiana.
The Coroner’s Office and a detective were assigned to investigate the death. At this time there is no evidence of foul play. An autopsy will be conducted later today. There will be no further comment pending completion of the investigation.
