Indiana State Police Serve search warrant of former Clark County Sheriff and 9th District GOP chair

JEFFERSONVILLE - AUGUST 16, 2023 - Indiana State Police served search warrants at the home of former Clark County Sheriff Jamey Noel Wednesday afternoon.

Former Sheriff Noel served his second term as Sheriff and remained in the Clark County Sheriff as a Major in the new administration. He was voted Sheriff of the Year in 2021.

Noel also served as Chair of the Republican Party, and 9th District GOP. His public safety career includes being an Indiana State Trooper and fire chief of the Utica Fire Department.

Noel is co-founder of the New Chapel Fire and EMS.

The search was for allegations of fraud, tax evasion, public corruption, ghost employment, and corruption according to information received from investigators.

Current Clark County Sheriff Scottie Maples released a statement about 4:00 pm that said the following:

" When the people of this county elected me Sheriff, I ordered a thorough review of the office, its budget, and much more. During the review, we uncovered evidence of troubling and criminal behavior. Because no one is above the law, I referred the evidence we uncovered to the Indiana State Police to ensure an impartial and independent investigation. We'll continue to cooperate with the independent investigation in every way we can,"

The Jeffersonville Fire Department responded to the residence and was seen carrying in axes and saws to gain access to a safe.

At this time there no arrests made and investiagtors from the Indiana State Police was still at his residence late Wednesday night.
