Indiana State Fire Marshal Office to Investigate Fatal Fire on Lemon Quarry Road Thursday

JUDAH - NOVEMBER 10, 2022- The Indiana State Fire Marshal's office is investigating a fire that occurred Thursday in the 200 block of Lemon Quarry Road.


Emergency personnel was performing CPR on the fire victim before being transported to the hosptial were the fire victim succumbed to their injuries.


The person in a mobile home became trapped during the fire. At this time the exact cause of the fire is being determined from investigators from the Lawrence County Sheriff's Department and Indiana State Fire Marshal's Office for fire/ cause determination.


Name of the victim is being withheld pending notification of family members.





The call reporting the fire came in after 12:04 p.m. Thursday afternoon.


Emergency personnel from Marshall Township, Oolitic, Perry Township Volunteer fire departments from Lawrence County and Monroe Fire Protection District from Monroe County as well as the U.S. Forestry Service. The Lawrence County Sheriff's Department and Indiana State Police also responded to the fire.

The fire spread into a nearby woods, with deputies from the Lawrence: County Sheriff's Department freeing chickens and a pig before the fire consumed the pens of the animals.



Firefighters are still containing the wildland fire that threatened nearby properties and a propane tanks.
