Indian Creek Firefighters on Scene of Wildland Fire for over 7 Hours in Silverville

SILVERVILLE - OCTOBER 21, 2021 - Indian Creek Township Volunteer Fire Department responded to a woods fires Friday afternoon. The 911 call reporting the fire came in at 12:28 p.m. and firefighters did not leave the scene until 7:28 p.m.


The fire was reported in the 300 block of Indiana State Road 158 just west of the Graded Road.



According to Indian Creek Township Volunteer Fire Chief Monte Wright stated the property owner was burning leaves and got out of control.


The windy condition pushed the fire into nearby woods, burning approximately one acre. "We wanted to make sure the fire was completely out and did not rekindle. This fire took us several hours to extinguish several hotspots.


There are several burn bans in place across the southern part of Indiana, however at this time Lawrence County has not issued a burn ban.


Fire departments are encouraging local residents not to burn until a significant amount of rain has fallen. According to fire officials it is just too dangerous to burn.
