Franklin Man Arrested for Theft from Seymour Home Depot

SEYMOUR -MAY 27, 2022 - On May 23, 2022, Investigators with the Seymour Police Department received information from Home Depot Asset Protection that a theft occurred at the Seymour, Indiana location on May 21, 2022. The theft involved numerous rolls of electrical wire valued at over $4,000.00.
Investigators were able to determine the vehicle that the suspect loaded the wire into an left the location in. Investigators contacted the owner of the vehicle who was a driver for LIFT, an online transportation provider. The LIFT driver told Investigators that the picked up a male individual in Greenwood, Indiana and transported him to the Home Depot in Seymour where he obtained the wire. The Lift driver then transported the male to a location in Franklin, Indiana.
On May 24, 2022, Investigators with the Seymour Police Department went to the 2500 block South of US 31 in Franklin, Indiana and located the suspect. The suspect told Investigators that he had recently been terminated from his employment and fell on hard times. The suspect claimed that he just swapped the wire out and did not take it. Evidence collected by Investigators show otherwise.
Evan Marcus Patton age 31 of Franklin, Indiana was arrested for theft a level 6 felony. Investigators also located over $2,100.00 on Patton’s person. The money was seized and is believed to be proceeds of the theft. Patton was transported to the Jackson County Jail and remanded into the custody of the Jail Division for processing.
