Five year old airlifted to Norton's Children Hospital after vehicle hits the child and residence

HURON - AUGUST 24, 2023 - Updated : A five year old child was airlifted to Norton's Children's Hospital after a passenger vehicle struck a small child and residence Thursday afternoon.

The accident was reported at 4:15 pm in the 5300 block of U.S. 50 West just west of truck lane hill.

The passenger vehicle was traveling westbound on U.S. 50 and went off the roadway and traveled several hundred feet hitting the child and his grandfather and the residence.

Emergency personnel from Bedford Fire Department, Huron Volunteer Fire Department, Marion Township Volunteer Fire Department along with two ambulances from IU Lifeline and one ambulance from Lawrence County Fire Territory and AirEvac air ambulance responded to the scene.

A landing zone was in a yard next to the accident scene and AirEvac 17 Paoli, Indiana landed while the child was treated at the scene by ambulance personnel.

Two adult patients, which included one from the vehicle was transported from the scene emergent by Lawrence County Ambulance and the second by IU Lifeline ground ambulance. Their conditions are unknown.

The accident is under investigation by Lawrence County Sheriff Department with complete details not being released at a later time.
