According to fire officials the call came in originally reporting smoke in the residence and firefighters having Mitchell to stand-by on their station.
However, as first arriving units found fire coming from a back bedroom involved in fire and requested both Mitchell and Huron Volunteer Fire Department to respond.
" Somehow there were a breakdown in communication and the Huron Volunteer Fire Department was never dispatched to the call," said Paul Gillespie Fire Chief Marion Township Volunteer Fire Chief.
The occupant of the home and her dog was able to escape from the fire. A friend offered the woman a place to stay, as the American Red Cross was contacted also did not respond to the scene.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, the origin of the fire around the washer and dryer and the breaker was tripped.
