Firefighters Respond to Brush Fire along Indiana State Road 37 near Needmore exit
NEEDMORE - JANUARY 24, 2023 - Firefighters responded to a large field fire along Indiana State Road 37 near Needmore exit Tuesday afternoon.

The fire reported by Indiana State Police around 3:10 pm sent firefighters from the Marshall Township Volunteer Fire Department and Shawswick Volunteer Fire Department to the scene.

Due to radio upgrades at the Lawrence County Central dispatch to encrypt and upgrade the fire radio system Marshall Township dispatch was delayed by several minutes. Shawswick was sent to respond to the fire due to the delay.
Firefighters was able to get the fire under control quickly once firefighters arrived on the scene. Approximately two acres burned, and firefighters was able to keep the fire from spreading into a nearby housing addition.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
