Firefighters respond to apartment fire at 4th and Warren Streets in Mitchell New Years Eve night

MITCHELL - DECEMBER 31, 2023 - Updated: The Indiana State Fire Marshal's office will be investigating the cause and origin of an unoccupied apartment building. According to Mitchell Volunteer Fire Department Assistant Fire Chief Wayne Coble.


Firefighters responded to a apartment fire located at 4th and Warren Streets in Mitchell New Years Eve night.

The fire was reported around 9:30 pm with fire crews from City of Mitchell and Marion Township Volunteer Fire Department dispatched to the scene.



The fire was located on the top floor of the apartment building. Firefighters were able to get the main body of fire under control quickly.


However, firefighters used Ladder 52 from Marion Township to gain access to the roof to help remove smoke from the building.





There were no reported injuries from the fire and reports that the building was unoccupied at the time of the fire.

The cause of the fire is not known at this time. Firefighters stretched fire hoses from 5th and Warren down to the fire scene and using the fire hydrant at 4th and Warren Streets.



Mitchell Police Department and IU Lifeline Ambulance assisted fire crews at the scene.


Tonight's fire would make the City of Mitchell Volunteer Fire Department's 951 emergency calls to end 2023.
