Fire Under Investigation After Vacant Home Fire in Mitchell

MITCHELL - (March 22, 2022) - Mitchell Volunteer Fire Department is investigating the cause of a residential fire at a vacant home in the 300 block of Warren Street in Mitchell.


The Indiana State Fire Marshal's office has been contacted to investigate the fire.


A vacant home caught fire this morning in the 300 block of Warren Street in Mitchell


The call reporting the blaze came in at 8:37 a.m. with firefighters from Mitchell and Marion Township Volunteer Fire Department responding to the fire.




" The home has been empty for the last two - three weeks, and a tree fallen down on the home in the same amount of time. When firefighters arrived they found a fire in the rear of the home. Firefighters were able to quickly get the fire under control," said Wayne Coble Assistant Fire Chief Mitchell Fire Department.




There were no injuries reported . Seals Ambulance Crew responded to the scene to stand-by while firefighters battled the blaze.




Tuesday morning's fire is the second structure fire within the last 24 hours both departments responded to.
