Family Lost Everything in Mobile Home Fire in Fort Ritner

FORT RITNER - OCTOBER 22, 2022 - A Fort Ritner family lost everything in a mobile home fire in Fort Ritner Saturday afternoon.


Mobile Home owned by Ben and Tara Morrow was destroyed in a fire Saturday afternoon


No one was home at the time of the fire. The mobile home was owned by Ben and Tara Morrow with their five children is considered a total loss.



The family was camping at Free Spirit Campground when the fire was discovered at 12:38 p.m. on Saturday.



The fire was discovered by a neighbor and also contacted the family to make sure no one was in the residence.


Their five children from ages 15 - age to age five, with a set of twins lost all their clothing and possessions.



The Shawwick Township Volunteer Fire Department contacted the American Red Cross to help the assist the family. Rhea Myers one of the grandparents has provided a phone number to Lawrence County Zephyr for those who are wanting to help provide assistance to the family. Her phone number is 8122761676.


At this time fire officials did not know what caused the fire.


Firefighters from Shawswick Township Volunteer Fire Department, Marion Township, and Mitchell City Fire Department, and Seals Ambulance crews responded to the fire.


Jackson County REMC was contacted to disconnect the power to the residence. Firefighter remained on the scene until 2:55 p.m.
