Update : Emergency Personnel Respond to Injured Horseback Rider in Hoosier National Forest

HELTONVILLE - MAY 26 2023 - Emergency personnel responded to the Hoosier National Forest Friday evening after a person riding a mule was injured.


A person was airlifted to the University of Louisville hospital in Louisville Kentucky, with possible fractures to his neck and spine. According to reports the person was thrown from their mule and was stomped on.


The incident occurred on Trail Number 7 in the Hoosier National Forest near Heltonville.


Emergency personnel was on the scene for approximately two hours to get the patient removed from where the patient was located in the forest to an waiting ambulance.


The ambulance then took the patient to a landing-zone where a helicopter was waiting to transport the patient to a trauma center.


Emergency personnel from the Pleasant Run Township Volunteer Fire Department in Heltonville, IU Health Ambulance Service, Indiana Conservation Officers and Hoosier National Forest Law Enforcement personnel are some of the original responders who was dispatched to the incident.
