EF-1 Tornado hits Clark County Indiana Saturday morning

CLARK COUNTY - FEBRUARY 10, 2024 - The Monroe Township released the following press release after teir fire crews spent the day assisting with the clean up of a EF- 1 tornado.

"Our crews spent several hours this morning working in the aftermath of what has since-been determined to be an EF1 tornado with winds of 90MPH," said Battalion Chief J. Phillips Monroe Township Fire Department.

Fire crews first responded at 4:57 am with a report of a semi-overturned on Interstate 65 near the 22 mile marker, now believed to be related to the high winds. After the dispatch for the crash, the driver reported he was not injured.



Responding units were then diverted to several of calls for service involving downed trees, power lines, and collapsed buildings, all within the northern part of the township in the Underwood area.



Multiple trees covered Country Lake Rd, US 31, Beagle Club, Old State rd, and others.


Vienna Township Fire Department was requested and they responded with manpower to help cut trees and clear roadways


. All units cleared and went available just before 9: 00 am.

There are wide spread power outages however no reports of injuries or deaths.


NWS assessment teams also surveyed damage in the Salem area.
